Frequently
Asked Questions. Here are some
of the most common questions our clients ask about us and their
special event.
Q: How far in advance should I book my event?
A: As soon as you know the date. It's never to early to contact us to check our availability and request that we put a hold on the date for you, especially since most events are booked a year in advance. The caterer should be the most important vendor you choose to insure you have a perfect event and should be the first selection you make. The caterer can also assist you with many of your event planning details including selection of a venue, linens, centerpieces, AV and more, thus saving you valuable time and stress.
Q: What additional services do you offer? Can you help me plan my event?
A: At Thomas Caterers of Distinction, we have four Certified Special Event Professionals on staff (out of only seven in the entire state), who, in addition to designing a perfect menu for your event, can assist with all your event planning needs such as rentals, linens, centerpieces, tenting, AV, permits, transportation, etc. and can even recommend venues and other reputable vendors for additional services you may require. You can relax and be a guest at your own event while we handle all the details for you.
Q: What is a Certified Special Event Professional (CSEP)?
A: The CSEP designation is the hallmark of professional achievement in the special events industry and is earned through education, performance, experience and service to the industry. Currently, there are only seven event professionals in Indiana with the CSEP designation. Four of them are with Thomas Caterers of Distinction (Dee, Jennifer, Kelly & Vince). It is this professionalism and expectation of excellence that distinguishes TCOD as one of the nation's top caterers.
Q: What is a service charge?
A: The service charge is a percentage of your total bill and is not a gratuity. It contributes to offsetting wages for the kitchen staff, equipment staff, sales staff, and other office personnel. It also contributes to rising insurance and worker compensation rates, utility bills and other operating costs. Typical service charge rates range from 18-21%. Thomas Caterers of Distinction charges a 16% service charge.
